Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced the opening of registration for its 2018 Esports Open Qualifier, as the team searches for its new competitive esports representative. The event, to be held in the form of an online tournament on November 14-15 at 8:00 p.m. PT each day, is being held to narrow the field to the top 16 players who will be invited to the Sounders FC Esports Finals on December 4.
The 2018 Sounders FC Esports Open Qualifier is a free online tournament open to any FIFA gamers who are FUT Champions Verified and live within 75 miles of Seattle, or within the cities of Spokane or Bellingham. Players wishing to register for the Open Qualifier who are under the age of 18 will be required to provide parental consent for participation. More information about the tournament can be found at smash.gg/SFC.
Gamers need only select one of the two days - either November 14 or November 15 - to play, as each day is a separate tournament.
The top 16 players from the Open Qualifiers will advance to the Finals, held on December 4 in The NINETY. At that time, players will face off against one another in a knockout-style tournament for a chance to become Sounders FC's new esports representative.
2019 marks the second year that Sounders FC has participated in the esports realm. Last season, the team was one of 19 MLS clubs that took part in the inaugural eMLS Cup, a venture of eMLS, which was launched by Major League Soccer and EA SPORTS in January of this year to provide a unique and interactive avenue for the FIFA community to engage with MLS and for gaming fans to show their passion for their MLS club of choice.
