SHELTON, CT -- Paul Healey scored two goals and Vladimir Nikiforov added a goal and two assists as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers earned a 3-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack in preseason AHL action Saturday night at The Rinks at Shelton.

Healey put the Sound Tigers on the board first with a goal at the 8:13 mark of the first period. Vladimir Nikiforov fired a shot from the point that Matt Zaba stopped. However, Healey swooped in and stuffed the rebound through Zaba's legs for the goal.

The Wolf Pack evened the score in the final minute of the first period when Dustin Couture found the back of the net with 17 seconds left. Brent Henley sent a pass across the ice to Couture who one-timed a shot through the legs of Scott Munroe.

Dane Byers gave the Wolf Pack the lead 4:03 into the second period. Andres Ambuhl put the initial shot on net which was stopped by Mikko Koskinen but Byers came in and cleaned up the rebound.

Healey evened the score midway through the second period, finishing off a two-man break with Nikiforov at the 9:43 mark. Nikiforov took a pass from James Sixsmith, brought the puck into the offensive zone, and sent it through the slot to Healey who redirected it past Zaba to make it 2-2 after two periods.

Nikiforov scored what proved to be the game winning goal at the 9:18 mark of the third period, deflecting a shot by Dustin Friesen behind Zaba for a 3-2 Sound Tiger lead.

Hartford kept the pressure on late in the game, but Mikko Koskinen was impressive in goal tonight, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced in the final two periods to earn the victory.

The Sound Tigers open their regular season schedule next Saturday, October 3rd, against the Lowell Devils at 7:00 pm at the Arena at Harbor Yard. For ticket information please call 203-334-GOAL.
