Devils Deal Pirates Exhibition Set Back

PORTLAND, Maine - Jeff Prough scored twice to lead the Lowell Devils to a 6-3 victory over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League pre-season game played tonight at the Portland Ice Arena.

Nathan Perkovich, Nick Palmieri, Alexander Vasyunov and Eric Castonguay netted the other Lowell goals while Matt Taormina supplied a pair of assists.

Rookie forwards Mark Voakes and Tyler Ennis paced the Pirates with a goal and an assist each. Fellow rookie Paul Byron also scored.

Lowell led 4-0 after one and 5-1 heading into the third.

J.P. Lamoureux played the entire game between the pipes for the Pirates. The rookie goaltender allowed six goals on 33 shots in the loss.

Gerald Coleman went the distance for the Devils turning aside 35 shots in the win.

Final shots favored the Pirates 38-33.

Lowell improved to 1-0-0-1 with the win.

The Pirates are 0-1-0-0.

The Pirates continue exhibition action tomorrow (Sunday) when they travel to Berlin, NH for a matinee contest against the Manchester Monarchs. The 2 p.m. game will be played at the Notre Dame Arena.

Portland completes the pre-season on Wednesday (September 30th) when the University of New Brunswick Reds visit the Portland Ice Arena for a 7 p.m. start. The Pirates open the 2009-2010 American Hockey League regular season with a pair of road games. Saturday, October 3rd the Pirates will be in Springfield to meet the Falcons followed by a Friday, October 9th game against the River Rats in Albany. Both games can be heard live on Atlantic Coast Radio's WLOB 95.5FM beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.

The Pirates 2009-2010 home opener will take place on Saturday, October 10th when the Providence Bruins visit the CCCC for a 7 p.m. start.
