ALBANY, NY- The River Rats scored two quick goals to open the game and never looked back as they finished-off the Adirondack Phantoms 5-1 in front of 5,289 fans Saturday night at the Times Union Center. Albany opens its 17th AHL season next Saturday, October 3rd at the Times Union Center against the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m.

Stephan Chaput scored a power play goal 6:53 into the game and Harrison Reed doubled Albany's lead two minutes later to make it 2-0 heading into the second period. Acting River Rats captain Mike Angelidis gave his club a three goal cushion 2:18 into the middle frame and Rookie Zach Boychuk almost made it a four goal game a minute later on a penalty shot, but Phantoms goalie Nic Riopel denied his attempt.

Adirondack's only tally came midway through the second period when a hard pass deflected off of Bryan Marshall's skate and behind River Rats goaltender Justin Peters. Boychuk responded for Albany with the club's second power play goal of the night, set-up by a beautiful cross ice pass from defenseman Bryan Rodney. Jacob MicFlikier sealed Albany's 5-1 route with the only goal of the third period.

River Rats goaltender Justin Peters stopped 15-of-16 shots faced to earn the win. Phantoms goalie Nick Riopel allowed three goals on 22 shots in 29:56 of action and took the loss; his replacement, Michael Teslak, stopped 3-of-5 shots faced in the last 30:04 of the game. Albany out-shot Adirondack 27-16 and went 2-for-7 on the power play; the Phantoms were 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
