
Sound Tigers to Hold Islanders Appreciation Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, will hold "Islanders Appreciation Weekend" when they host the Springfield Falcons Saturday, March 15th at 7:05 p.m. and the Binghamton Senators Sunday, March 16th at 4:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.
Former Islanders Clark Gillies and Jean Potvin will take part in the weekend's festivities. Gillies was a member of all four Islanders' Stanley Cup Championship teams from 1979-80 through 1982-83 and was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Potvin joined the Islanders during the 1972-73 season when the team began play under the leadership of current Sound Tigers President Roy Boe who founded the NHL club.
Discounted tickets, with savings of up to $7 per ticket for select seats, for both games will be available to Islanders fans who purchase tickets in advance by calling the Sound Tigers office at 203-334-GOAL. Discounted tickets will also be available to fans wearing Islanders apparel when they purchase tickets in person at the Harbor Yard box office on game day.
The Port Jefferson Ferry is also offering a special, all-inclusive package featuring discounted, round-trip ferry fare and Sound Tigers' tickets during "Islanders Appreciation Weekend". Cost for the all-inclusive Port Jefferson Ferry package is $25 for adults and $21 for children 12 and under. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the Port Jefferson Ferry office at 631-473-5138. The Sound Tigers will wear specially-designed uniforms that will combine their logo with the Islanders' familiar orange and blue color scheme for both games during "Islanders Appreciation Weekend". The jerseys from these special uniforms will be auctioned during Sunday's game. The live auction will begin at the start of the second period of play, and the winning bidders will receive their jersey in an on-ice presentation following Sunday's game and have their picture taken with the player who wore it.
The weekend will conclude will an autograph session, that is open to all fans who attend Sunday's game, featuring Sound Tigers players.
