Blue Jackets Recall Defenseman Duvie Westcott

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Duvie Westcott from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, club President, General Manager and Interim Head Coach Doug MacLean announced today.

Westcott has played 28 games with the Blue Jackets this season, registering five assists and 61 penalty minutes. The 25-year-old played the months of December and January with the Blue Jackets prior to being assigned to Syracuse on Jan. 31. He was expected to play with the Crunch and in the American Hockey League All-Star Game during the NHL All-Star break, but suffered a concussion in a game with the Crunch and was out of action until this past weekend. In 21 games with Syracuse, Westcott has recorded 1-10-11 and 52 penalty minutes.

Westcott played four games with the Jackets last season, registering a minus-two rating and two penalty minutes. In 68 games with Syracuse in 2001-02, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native recorded 4-29-33, a plus-three rating and 99 penalty minutes. Westcott was signed as a free agent on May 10, 2001 after two seasons at St. Cloud St. University, which included Second Team All-WCHA honors in 1999-2000.

The Blue Jackets host the Vancouver Canucks at Nationwide Arena. Game time is at 7 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Net Ohio and heard on the Blue Jackets Radio Network (WBNS-1460 AM & WWCD-101.1 FMùlocally), with both pre-game shows beginning at 6:30 p.m.
