Hartford, March 6, 2003 -- Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Al Coates announced today that the Wolf Pack have acquired former Pack defenseman Ryan Bast on loan from the Philadelphia Flyers and have re-signed center Chris Pittman.
Bast, a 6-3, 210-pound seventh-year pro, had been playing for the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. He had contributed one assist in 11 games for the Phantoms and had spent 21 minutes in the penalty box. The Regina, Saskatchewan native began the year with the Lowell Lock Monsters, for whom he scored one goal and had 68 PIM in 45 games. After signing as a free agent with Lowell's parent club, the Carolina Hurricanes, this past July, Bast was traded by Carolina to Philadelphia February 7th, along with Sami Kapanen, for Pavel Brendl and Bruno St. Jacques.
Bast spent the 2000-01 season with the Wolf Pack, suiting up for 50 games and notching one goal and one assist for two points, along with 146 minutes in penalties. A veteran of 406 career AHL games, the 27-year-old Bast was a Second-Team All-Star selection in 1997-98, when he was a +33 (second-best in the AHL) with a Saint John Flames team that went all the way to the Calder Cup Finals. He also played two NHL games with the Flyers in 1998-99.
Pittman signed a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement with the Wolf Pack. He enters his second stint with the Wolf Pack, having scored one goal and taken two minor penalties in an earlier three-game tour of duty. In 57 games with the East Coast Hockey League's Columbia Inferno, Pittman has 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points, with 85 PIM. He had been returned to Columbia by the Wolf Pack February 21st.
The Wolf Pack are home this weekend against Springfield on Friday and Albany Saturday (both 7:05 PM starts). Wolf Pack 2002-03 multi-game, coupon book and group-discount packages, as well as single-game tickets, are all currently on sale.
