
Sound Tigers Split Weekend Pair

The Sound Tigers split a pair of games last week rallying to beat the division-leading Binghamton Senators 2-1 in a shootout at home Friday but losing 6-2 on the road to the Hershey Bears Saturday. They finished last week in sixth place in the East Division with 42 points and a 20-26-1-1 record, including 17-5 at home and 3-21-1-1 on the road.
FRI FEB 11th vs. BIN, 2-1 SOW: All-Star ANTON VOLCHENKOV opened the scoring 1:25 into the game giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead. ROB COLLINS tied the score 2:33 into the third period off assists from KEVIN COLLEY and JUSTIN PAPINEAU, who was making his return to the lineup after a 20-game absence with a shoulder injury. Collins and JOHN MORLANG then scored in the shootout while WADE DUBIELEWICZ, who made 39 saves in regulation and overtime, stopped four of five Senators' attempts in the shootout. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play while Binghamton was 0 for 2 and had a 40-23 shots on goal advantage.
SAT FEB 12th at HER, 6-2 L: ANDRE SAVAGE and former Sound Tiger MIKE SOUZA gave Hershey a 2-0 lead through one period. BRENDAN YAREMA, shorthanded, and STEVE REGIER tied the score at 2-2 late in the middle frame. However, JEFF ULMER, ERIC PERRIN, RYAN STEEVES and Souza, into an empty net, scored for the Bears in the third period. Hershey was 1 for 3 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 3 and lost despite a 30-29 shots on goal advantage.
SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK â RW ROB COLLINS
Collins continued to lead the Sound Tigers in scoring by notching the tying goal in the third period then improving to 4 for 4 in shootouts in Friday's win and by assisting on a goal in Saturday's loss. The Peterborough, Ontario native finished last week leading the Sound Tigers with 14 goals, 21 assists and 35 points in 46 games. He also led the team at week's end with four game-winning goals and four unassisted goals in addition to having three power-play goals, two first goals, an overtime goal, a shorthanded goal and an empty-netter.
THIS WEEK â Long Island Home Game Highlights Three Game Week The Sound Tigers will play three games this week, including one at the home of the Islanders. They will visit Binghamton
Thursday, play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island Friday and host the Worcester IceCats at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard Sunday. Friday's game will be the first "home" contest in an NHL arena for the Sound Tigers who have played at the home of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Wachovia Center, and the New Jersey Devils, the Continental Airlines Arena (see Community Calendar & Promotional News).
THU FEB 17th at BIN, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fifth of eight meetings of the teams this regular season, the third of four in Binghamton. The Sound Tigers are 8-9-1 all-time, 2-2 with a pair of road losses this season, versus the Senators who finished last week in first place in the East Division with 64 points and a 28-18-4-4 record, including 18-5-2-2 at home and unbeaten-in-regulation in two games at 1-0-0-1. Binghamton is represented by four players; JASON SPEZZA, BRIAN POTHIER, BRANDON BOCHENSKI and ANTON VOLCHENKOV; at this week's AHL All-Star Classic.
FRI FEB 18th vs. WIL, 7:30 p.m.: This will be the seventh of eight meetings of the teams this regular season, the third of four hosted by the Sound Tigers. The Sound Tigers are 9-6-1 all-time versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 2-4 with two home wins this season. The Penguins finished last week in second place in the East Division with 63 points and a 26-14-5-6 record, including 8-6-4-4 on the road. MICHEL OUELLET is representing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at this week's AHL All-Star Classic. The Penguins will visit the Portland Pirates Thursday.
SUN FEB 20th vs. WOR, 4:05 p.m.: This will be the fourth and final meeting of the teams this regular season, the second in Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers are 7-3-1 all-time, including 1-2 with a home loss this season, versus Worcester who finished last week tied with the Providence Bruins for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 61 points and a 28-19-3-2 record, including 11-11-2-1 on the road. Rookie DENNIS WIDEMAN is representing the IceCats at this week's AHL All-Star Classic. Worcester will visit the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday and the Lowell Lock Monsters Saturday in the fourth and fifth games of six straight on the road.

RW SEAN BERGENHEIM is representing the Sound Tigers at the AHL All-Star Classic in Manchester, New Hampshire skating for the PlanetUSA Team, which won last night's skills competition 17-13. Bergenheim was the lead skater as PlanetUSA opened the competition by winning the first heat of the Puck Control Relay. He was the only player score on G MATHIEU GARON of the host Manchester Monarchs in the third-and-final round of the last event, the Breakaway Relay.

SOUND TIGERS INJURY UPDATE
C RYAN KRAFT had successful surgery on his fractured left ankle last Tuesday on Long Island. ⢠D KEITH ALDRIDGE had successful surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday, February 2nd on Long Island. ⢠C BLAINE DOWN is out of the lineup with fractures of three vertebral bodies of his cervical spine suffered on January 30th but is expected to make a full recovery and should be able to resume his hockey career once cleared by a specialist.

Hockey will return to the Nassau Coliseum this Friday, February 18th when the Sound Tigers host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:30 p.m. Net proceeds from Friday's game will benefit the New York Islanders Children's Foundation, which plans to distribute the funds to charities that support children in need. Sound Tigers season subscribers will receive a complimentary Gift Bag, including team merchandise and tickets to an upcoming New York Dragons game, for making the trip to Long Island.
