
Sound Tigers Split First Four Games Of Seven Straight On Road

The Sound Tigers split the first four games of seven straight on the road beating the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 Wednesday and the Hartford Wolf Pack 1-0 Friday before losing 3-1 to both the Binghamton Senators Saturday and the Albany River Rats Sunday. The Sound Tigers finished the week tied with the Philadelphia Phantoms for first place in the East Division with 85 points and a 36-21-9-4 record, including 19-11-3-2 on the road. The 19 road wins are a franchise single-season record.
WED MAR 17th at WIL, 2-1 W: KEVIN COLLEY opened the scoring in the first period, WADE DUBIELEWICZ stopped 32 of 33 shots, and RYAN KRAFT broke a 1-1 tie with 3:55 left in regulation. MICHEL OUELLET scored Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lone goal on a second-period power play. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 2 on the power play while the Penguins were 1 for 3 and had a 33-16 shots on goal advantage.
FRI MAR 19th at HAR, 1-0 W: JEFF HAMILTON scored his AHL single-season-record 14th game-winning goal with 45 seconds left in the first period, and WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 33 saves for his franchise-single-season-record eighth shutout, his fourth against Hartford. It was also the 20th win of the year for the Rookie All-Star netminder. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 6 on the power play while the Wolf Pack were 0 for 7 and had a 33-27 shots on goal advantage.
SAT MAR 20th at BIN, 3-1 L: Binghamton's JULIEN VAUCLAIR opened the scoring with a four-on-four second-period goal. BLAINE DOWN tied the score at 1-1 mid-way through the third period, but SERGE PAYER regained the lead for the Senators with a major-power-play goal just 1:34 later. DENIS HAMEL added an empty-netter with 7.6 seconds left to play. Binghamton was 1 for 6 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 3 and had a 36-26 shots on goal advantage, including a season-single-period-high 21 shots in the third.
SUN MAR 21st at ALB, 3-1 L: Albany's CRAIG DARBY assisted on three goals by JOE HULBIG on the power play in the first period, STEVE KARIYA in the second period and STEVE GUOLLA into an empty net in the third period. STEVE WEBB was credited with the lone goal for the Sound Tigers who were 0 for 3 on the power play while the River Rats were 1 for 4 and had a 32-23 shots on goal advantage.
SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK â G WADE DUBIELEWICZ
Dubielewicz stopped 94 of the 97 shots he faced posting a 2-1 record, 1.00 goals against average and a .969 save percentage in three appearances last week. His shutout Friday in Hartford was his franchise-single-season-record eighth. Dubielewicz leads all AHL goaltenders with a 1.42 goals against average and is second with a .944 save percentage and tied for third with eight shutouts. The All-Star netminder is 20-8-4 in 32 appearances this season.
THIS WEEK â First Place Showdown In Philadelphia Highlights Three Game Weekend
The Sound Tigers will play the final three games of seven straight on the road when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms Friday and the Norfolk Admirals Saturday and Sunday.
FRI MAR 26th at PHI, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the seventh of eight meetings of the teams, the fourth and final in Philadelphia, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 7-6-1 all-time, 3-2-1 this season, versus the Phantoms with whom they begin this week tied for first place in the East Division. Philadelphia has 85 points and a 39-24-6-1 record, including 20-11-3-1 at home. RW KIRBY LAW is tied for fifth in the League with 63 points. D JOHN SLANEY leads all defensemen with 16 goals and is tied for the lead among all blueliners with four game-winners and two shorthanded goals. LW PETER VANDERMEER leads the AHL with 355 penalty minutes. The Phantoms do not play until Friday.
SAT MAR 27th at NOR, 7:30 p.m.: This will be the sixth of eight meetings of the teams, the third of four in Norfolk, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 2-5 all-time, 2-3 this season, versus the Admirals who begin this week tied with Binghamton for fourth and fifth place, the final two playoff spots, in the East Division with 73 points and a 32-30-4-5 record, including 20-12-1-2 at home. D MARTY WILFORD is tied for tenth in scoring among all defensemen with 36 points and is tied for second among all blueliners with 33 assists. Norfolk will host the Manchester Monarchs Friday.
SUN MAR 28th at NOR, 4 p.m.: This will be the seventh of eight meetings of the teams, the fourth and final in Virginia, this regular season. It will also mark the second two-game-in-two-night visit of the season to Norfolk for the Sound Tigers, as well as the end of a stretch of seven straight road games.
