Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, March 22, 2004) - For the second season in a row, the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League will be holding a silent auction at a game in support of fundraising activities for Louise Arters, who portrayed one of the blonde bombshell groupies known as the "Sparkle Twins" in the 1977 Universal Pictures release "Slap Shot." This year's game will take place on Sunday, March 28 at 6:05 p.m. vs. the Manchester Monarchs at the Wachovia Spectrum.
Diagnosed in 1985 with multiple sclerosis and unable to drive using a conventional vehicle, Arters is in need of a specially equipped van to maintain her independence. The Phantoms are again teaming up with WNJC radio personality David Unkle and California businessman Ken Blake to plan the event and raise awareness of the incurable disease that attacks the body's central nervous system.
Appearing at the game with Arters and "Sparkle Twin" twin sister Janet to drop the ceremonial opening puck, are fellow "Slap Shot" actors Paul D'Amato (Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken), Yvon Barrette (Denis Lemieux), Guido Tenesi (Billy Charlebois), Christopher Murney (Hanrahan), & Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe, the real life player that the movie's infamous Ogie Ogelthorpe character was based on. Other cast members have been invited and will be joining Louise upon confirmation that they can attend. The actors will sign autographs during the second intermission and following the Phantoms Postgame Show in Bullies Sports Bar & Restaurant.
The silent auction will include autographed Phantoms and Flyers memorabilia,
Phantoms ticket packages, as well as Charlestown Chiefs jerseys, photos and pucks.
