SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

PAT BINGHAM

Assistant Coach

Born: October 10, 1968 in Vancouver, British Columbia

Named an assistant coach with the Sound Tigers in August of 2005

What is the most memorable place where you've played or coached?

When I was playing junior hockey for the New Westminster Bruins, I traveled to Europe with a team of WHL players and we skated in an outdoor rink somewhere in Switzerland, I can't even remember the town, and there were breathtaking views of the mountains and other scenery from anywhere on the ice.

What was the hardest part about going from playing to coaching?

Keeping my mouth shut; players get more leeway from the officials than the coach does.

What's the hardest thing you've had to adjust to as a coach?

The new age of technology; downloading video and data is very helpful, but it's been an adjustment to lug around and rely on the lap top more and more.

What would you be doing if you weren't in hockey?

I ask myself that all of the time-- and the "Chapeau Shop" line from Spinal Tap comes to mind. I have a buddy who is a fishing boat captain down in Florida and takes people out on the Gulf of Mexico; that would be a nice job!

Would you have answered that differently when you were playing?

I wouldn't have said coaching; it took being out of the game for two years for me to really appreciate how much I enjoy it. I worked as a personal trainer and message therapist during that time, and all I could think about was hockey.

Talk about winning the 2003-04 ECHL Coach of the Year?

Players can make the coach look really good! I had a great team with a great bunch of players that season!
