
Sound Tigers Sink Whale 6-2

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 25, 2011) - Sound Tigers captain Jeremy Colliton recorded his second straight three-point game and Tim Wallace scored twice as Bridgeport defeated the Connecticut Whale 6-2 at Webster Bank Arena on Friday night. With the win, the Sound Tigers improve to 10-7-2-0 on the season and 3-0-1-0 against their in-state rival. The Whale falls to 10-5-1-2.
Colliton and Wallace teamed up to put the Sound Tigers on the board 14:06 into the first period. Bridgeport was shorthanded, but Wallace blocked a shot from the point which lead a 2-on-1 rush. Colliton sent the puck through the slot to Wallace, who one-timed the puck past Cam Talbot for his seventh goal of the season to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Calvin de Haan added to the Sound Tigers lead 6:19 into the middle frame. Tomas Marcinko won a faceoff in the left circle of the Whale zone back to de Haan, who one-timed a shot through Talbot to make the score 2-0. Colliton pushed the lead three late in the frame when he collected a loose puck in the slot, spun and fired past Talbot for his fourth goal of the season.
The Sound Tigers fourth goal came on the power play. On a 5-on-3 advantage, Casey Cizikas knocked home a rebound in front for his fourth goal of the season to increase the lead to 4-0 2:12 into the third period. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault's wraparound at 4:10 of the final frame ended Kevin Poulin's shutout bid, but Wallace countered at 9:46 of the period. Scott Howes forced a turnover and found Wallace alone in front. The veteran forward deked and backhanded a shot past Talbot to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Sound Tigers. Howes gave the Sound Tigers a 6-1 lead when he forced another turnover by the Whale blue line, came in alone on Talbot and scored his second goal in as many games at 11:39 of the third. Kelsey Tessier rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the season coming on the rush on a power play at 13:37.
The Sound Tigers return to action tomorrow evening when the start a home-and-home series with the Manchester Monarchs in New Hampshire. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
