
Sound Tigers Sign Mike Omicioli To PTO

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed center Mike Omicioli to a professional tryout contract.
Omicioli, 28, has average more than a point per game during his career, notching 357 points in 331 games in the American, East Coast and United Hockey Leagues, as well as in Italy. The 5'5'' 169-pounder from West Warwick, Rhode Island has posted 17 goals, 38 assists, 55 points and 110 penalty minutes in 55 games while skating with his younger brother Drew for the United Hockey League's Danbury Trashers this season.
Omicioli split last year between the ECHL's Louisiana IceGators where he played with current Sound Tiger Chris Thompson and Asiago in Italy where also played with his brother. He played the previous two seasons (2002-04) for Bolzano in Italy, again skating with his brother. Omicioli has 44 games of AHL experience with the Portland Pirates (1998-99 & 1999-2000), Providence Bruins and Lowell Lock Monsters (2000-01), and Hershey Bears (2001-02). His ECHL stops include the Hampton Roads Admirals (1999-2000), Roanoke Express (2000-02), Columbus Cottonmouths (2001-02) and Louisiana. Omicioli also played four seasons (1995-99) at Providence College of Hockey East totaling 49 goals, 89 assists and 138 points in 135 career games with the Friars, before turning pro with Portland at the end of his senior year.
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of seven straight road games with a three-in-three-night weekend when they visit the Manchester Monarchs this Friday at 7:35 p.m., the Hartford Wolf Pack this Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Springfield Falcons this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Fans can also watch all AHL games live on the Internet via the B2 Networks pay per view.
