Admirals Clinch Playoff Spot
March 23, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- With their 4-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs last night in Hamilton, the Milwaukee Admirals clinched a spot in the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs. The dates, times and opponents for the playoff will be announced at a later date.
The Admirals are currently tied for first place in the West Division with the Houston Aeros. Both squads have 94 points on the season, however the Aeros do have two games in hand on the Admirals. If the playoff were to start today Milwaukee would lose the tie-breaker with Houston based on regular season wins (45 to 43), and would thus play the Peoria Rivermen, currently in third place, in the first round of the playoffs.
Milwaukee's magic number to clinch home-ice in the first round of the playoffs sits at 14. Any combination of 14 points earned by the Admirals, or points not earned by the Rivermen would give the Admirals home-ice advantage with their first-round opponent.
While individual tickets for the playoffs will go on sale at a later date, playoff packages, starting at just $220, are available now by calling the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550. Fans who purchase the playoff package are guaranteed the same seat for all home playoff games and receive a discount off of the face value of the ticket.
This is the fourth consecutive season that the Admirals have qualified for the playoffs and the 26th time in 29 professional seasons that the team has been in the post-season. The Ads lone championship came in 2004 when Claude Noel guided his squad to the Calder Cup Title. Milwaukee's roster currently boasts eight players who were members of that team.
The top four teams in each of the AHL's four divisions qualify for the Calder Cup playoffs, which will begin the week of April 17th. There are four potential rounds: division semi-finals, division finals, conference finals, and Calder Cup Finals, with each of them being a best-of-seven series. The Ads are the seventh team in the league to secure a playoff spot.
The Admirals continue their five-game road trip through Canada on Friday night versus the Manitoba Moose. Watch all of the Admirals road games live on the B2 Networks at https://www.b2livetv.com. The next Milwaukee home game will be on Friday, March 31st at 7:00 pm versus the Iowa Stars. The first 3,500 fans will receive a baseball hat, courtesy of ImageMark.
