
Senators recall defenseman Filip Novak from Binghamton (AHL)

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today recalled defenseman Filip Novak from the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, on an emergency basis to replace Anton Volchenkov. This is Novak's first call-up to the NHL.
Volchenkov suffered a slight concussion in Ottawa's March 21 game against Pittsburgh (5-2 win). He is listed as day-to-day, but is not expected to play in the Senators next game against the Sabres in Buffalo on Friday, March 24.
Novak, 22, has played 63 games with the B-Sens, recording eight goals, 44 assists and 58 penalty minutes. The Czech Republic native ranks fifth amongst AHL defensemen in scoring with 52 points.
Novak was acquired by Ottawa from the Florida Panthers on Oct. 5, 2005 for future considerations and was immediately assigned to Binghamton. Season highs have seen him record three-assist nights on two occasions and a single-game high of four points (1-3) on Jan. 14 against Bridgeport. He was named to the 2006 Planet USA All-Star team on Jan. 16.
Binghamton is fifth in the East Division with 30 wins, 31 losses, four overtime losses and four shootout losses for 68 points. Binghamton returns to action on Friday, March 24 in Syracuse to face the Crunch at 7:30 p.m.
