Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that fans attending the Syracuse Crunch home games on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 might find out that they are among the many New York residents who are the rightful owners of unclaimed funds currently held by the State Comptroller's Office.

The State Comptroller's Office of Unclaimed Funds Outreach Program will visit the War Memorial at Oncenter this weekend in an effort to help fans attending the Crunch game find abandoned accounts turned over to the State of New York. More than 21 million accounts totaling $7.2 billion are unclaimed throughout the state.

The outreach program travels throughout New York in an attempt to find the rightful owners of unclaimed property. Between April of 2004 and March of 2005, more than $135 million was delivered to citizens thanks to the office. Thirty-six percent of the claims are $50 or less and about 53 percent are $100 or less. But there are some larger unclaimed accounts, including one of more than $1.7 million.

Banks are the largest source of funds, holding 42 percent of the unclaimed accounts, while corporations hold 32 percent and insurance companies hold 10 percent.

The claim requirements vary depending on the type of account, but typically a signature, social security number and proof of connection with both the account and the address of record are required to claim the funds.

The Crunch hosts Binghamton on Friday, March 24 in a 7:30 p.m. match-up. Tickets are available by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473-4444, stopping by the Crunch office, located on the State Street side of the War Memorial or by calling TicketMaster at (315) 472-0700.
