Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators pulled to within six points of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division with a 5-3 win against the Albany River Rats before a large Wednesday night crowd of 4,376 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Rookie Bobby Robins, playing in only his fifth professional game after signing a 25-game amateur tryout agreement on March 13, tallied his first two professional goals and was named the game's first star. Robins' first goal sparked a comeback for the Sens who fell behind 2-0 when Ahren Nittel scored his 12th goal of the season at 6:07 of the middle period.
Defenseman Filip Novak tied the score at 2-2 before the second intermission with his eighth goal of the season.
Danny Bois and Charlie Stephens then came out of the dressing room and scored two quick goals to seize the game's momentum early in the third period. Stephens' 20th goal of the season, at 2:25 of the final period, proved to be the game winner.
Winger Alexander Mogilny, who has 473 NHL goals to his name, then pulled Albany back to within one at 3:28 of the third period. But Bobby Robins finished the scoring with his second of the night, both of which were assisted by Joe Cullen.
Binghamton outshot Albany 48 to 38 in the game, including a 22 to eight advantage in the second period.
Both teams scored one power-play goal with Albany receiving seven chances to Binghamton's six.
Binghamton returns to action on Friday night in Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. Follow the Sens live with Grady Whittenburg on 680 WINR-AM or online via the B2 Networks live webcast at www.binghamtonsenators.com.
