Sound Tigers Shutout 4-0 By Philadelphia

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, were shutout by the Philadelphia Phantoms 4-0 at home Friday.

Philadelphia led 1-0 after one period of play as R.J. Umberger scored his 15th goal of the season off assists from Ben Eager and John Slaney at 9:39.

The Phantoms upped their lead to 2-0 at the 5:29 mark of the middle frame when Slaney scored his eighth goal of the season off assists from Randy Jones and Umberger. Less than a minute later, at 6:27, Philadelphia made it 3-0 on a power-play goal by Josh Gratton, his sixth marker of the year, off assists from Tony Voce and Slaney.

Joni Pitkanen added another power-play goal, his fourth tally overall on the season, with 9:47 left in the game off assists from Jon Sim and Umberger.

The first star of the game was Phantom goaltender Neil Little who made 33 saves for his second shutout of the season and 200th career AHL win. The second star was Slaney and the third was Umberger, both of whom finished with one goal and two assists.

The Sound Tigers outshot Philadelphia 33-22 and were 0 for 6 on the power play. The Phantoms were 2 for 4 on advantage. Sound Tiger goalie Dieter Kochan made 18 saves in a losing effort.

The Sound Tigers will host the Norfolk Admirals tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. and the Providence Bruins this coming Wednesday, March 9th at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.

The first 2,000 fans who enter tomorrow's game at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will receive the fourth of this season's Sound Tigers card sets courtesy of Shaw ‚¬â„¢s. Graham Belak, Kevin Colley, Ryan Kraft and Richard Seeley will be featured on tomorrow's card set. The AHL's championship trophy, the Calder Cup, will also be at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard tomorrow as part of the "Calder Cup Tour 2005".
