Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (31-24-5-3), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, continue a four-game road trip this afternoon with a 3:05 p.m. puck drop against the Providence Bruins (37-21-3-2) at Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Sound Tigers are looking to bounce back after falling to the Hershey Bears, 3-2, on Friday at Giant Center, despite leading twice in the contest. Josh Ho-Sang recorded his sixth multi-point game of the season (one goal, one assist) and Casey Bailey scored his seventh goal on the power play, while Kristers Gudlevskis (11-12-5) made 23 saves on 26 shots. The setback was Bridgeport's first to Hershey this season and dropped the club to 23-19-4-2 against Atlantic Division opponents. The Sound Tigers are seven points outside of a playoff spot with two games in hand on the fourth-place Charlotte Checkers (13 games remaining).

TIGERS VS. BRUINS

Today's contest features the 10th of 12 meetings between the Sound Tigers and Bruins this season, and the sixth and final matchup in Rhode Island. Bridgeport is 5-3-0-1 against Providence thus far, but has dropped each of the last three games including a 5-3 setback at Dunkin' Donuts Center on Feb. 23. Bruins forward Jordan Szwarz led the way that night with three points (one goal, two assists), while Connor Jones scored one goal and added an assist for Bridgeport. In addition, Josh Ho-Sang collected two helpers and now leads all scorers in the season series with seven points (one goal, six assists) in seven games.

VIEW FROM PROVIDENCE

Jay Leach's club was shut out for the fourth time this season last night in a 3-0 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at PPL Center (two of those against the Sound Tigers). It kept the Bruins in third place in the Atlantic Division standings behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with 13 games left in the regular season. The Bruins are led in scoring by Austin Czarnik with 58 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 52 games this season. Czarnik has eight points (five goals, three assists) in his last six games, including a hat trick on Friday against Rochester, but had a four-game point streak come to an end last night.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The Sound Tigers are in the midst of their third and final four-game road trip of the season, which ties a season long. Bridgeport is 13-12-4-1 away from Webster Bank Arena this season and has won four of its last five on the road. Eight of the club's final 13 games will take place on the road.

DREAM SEASON

Quinnipiac University product Travis St. Denis is enjoying a remarkable second season and Thursday's game made it even better when he recorded his first pro hat trick and tied a Sound Tigers record with five points against Rochester. St. Denis is tied for the team lead with 37 points (20 goals, 17 assists) in 60 contests and currently paces Bridgeport in goals and power-play tallies (eight). He has seven goals in his last eight games (he had 12 all of last season) and 10 points total during that span.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

Yale University captain Ryan Hitchcock signed an amateur tryout (ATO) with the Sound Tigers just 10 days ago (Mar. 8) and made his professional debut last Sunday in Bridgeport's 5-4, comeback effort against Springfield, recording one shot. On Thursday the 21-year-old notched three assists, including helpers on the game-tying and go-ahead goals against Rochester in just his second pro game. Hitchcock is a native of Manhasset, N.Y. and grew up 11 miles from Nassau Coliseum.
