Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 2-1 on the road to the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday. With the win, Hartford remains the AHL's only unbeaten team. The Wolf Pack are now 8-0.
The Sound Tigers snapped a three-plus-game scoreless skid at 215:58 when Graham Belak chipped home a soft-but-pretty shot off a nice feed from Barrett Heisten with 4:50 left in the first period. It was Belak's first goal of the season with Heisten earning the only assist.
The Wolf Pack tied the game at 1-1 4:27 into the middle frame when Alexandre Giroux backhanded the rebound of a Maxim Kondratiev shot past Sound Tigers Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz from a tough angle for his second goal of the season.
Craig Weller grabbed a loose puck high in the slot of the Sound Tigers' zone and fired a wrist shot past Dubielewicz for his first goal of the year, an unassisted marker, 7:03 into the third period to give Hartford its first lead of the evening, and it turned out to be the only lead the Wolf Pack needed.
The Sound Tigers pulled Dubielewicz in favor of an extra attacker inside the final minute of play but could not tie the score.
Weller was the first star of the game, Hartford Netminder Jason LaBarbera was the second with 30 saves, and Dubielewicz was the third with 32 saves as the Wolf Pack had a 34-31 shots on goal advantage. Hartford was 0 for 3 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 0 for 2.
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of five straight road games when they visit the Portland Pirates tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. They will return home for a trio of games at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard versus the Norfolk Admirals next Saturday, November 13th at 7:05 p.m., the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins next Sunday, November 14th at 4:05 p.m. and the Providence Bruins the following Wednesday, November 17th at 7:05 p.m. All four games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
