Manitoba Moose News Release
It all starts at 6:00 tonight. Doors open at 5:00 and the Winnipeg Arena legends take to the ice at 6:00. After the ceremony, the Moose will play the Utah Grizzlies in the final hockey game ever to be played at the Winnipeg Arena. Following the game, there will be one final post-game ceremony before the doors are closed forever.
The second-place Moose (8-4-0-0) face off against the struggling Utah Grizzlies (0-7-0-1). The Grizzlies are yet to win a game this season after eight attempts. They are certainly looking at spoiling tonight's party to try and get on the right track.
Last Game Ever at Winnipeg Arena: Tonight marks the last hockey game ever to be played at the Winnipeg Arena. In their time at the Arena, the Manitoba Moose compiled a record of 169-120-13-26 in 328 games played. They scored 1083 goals and allowed 946 goals while playing at the Arena in their now nine-year history. Manitoba's next game is Wednesday, November 17th at the new MTS Centre when the Moose host the St. John's Maple Leafs.
4 in a Row: Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies was Manitoba's fourth win in a row and fifth in its last six. Last season, the Moose never won four games in a row. The last time they put four victories together was March 5/03-March 11/03. The last time the Moose won five in a row was Nov. 27/99-Dec. 8/99, however, that streak included three shootout wins. The last time they won five in a row in regulation was Nov. 6/1999-Nov. 17/99.
Jimmy Stands at 499: While Thursday's game marked the 500th of defenceman Nolan Baumgartner's pro career, Moose forward Jimmy Roy will play his 499th career game as a pro tonight versus the Grizzlies. Roy has played all 499 as a member of the Moose and has scored 84 goals (a Moose record) and added 97 assists for 181 points. Roy has also collected a franchise record 1,142 penalty minutes.
"O" From the "D": Kirill Koltsov's goal on Thursday proved to not only be his second goal of the season, but also his second game-winning goal of the year. That leaves tied for not only the team-lead in that category with Lee Goren, but both are also the league-lead in game-winning goals entering play on Friday, Nov. 5/04...Nolan Baumgartner's two assists on Thursday gives him 12 points on the season. As a result, he is the AHL's leading scorer amongst defenceman. He leads the league's rearguards in assists with nine, and is tied for the league-lead in goals amongst defenceman with three.
First time at Home: For the first time this season, the Moose will wear their traditional dark, home colours. So far this season, the Moose have worn their white uniforms at home twice due to sweater difficulties with the Edmonton Road Runners. Then this week, they wore a commemorative jersey to honor the final days of the Winnipeg Arena. This season, the Moose will predominantly wear their black uniforms a home while their green jersey will now act as their "alternate" jersey.
