Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs returned to their winning ways with a 5-2 victory over the Albany River Rats at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night, much to the delight of the 9,579 fans in attendance. Left wing Dustin Brown (3-0=3) collected his first professional hat trick in the game, which also included goals from center Michael Cammalleri (1-2=3) and right wing Tom Kostopoulos (1-1=2). Goaltender Mathieu Garon (5-1-0) earned the win, his fifth in six outings this season with 27 saves. With the win, the Monarchs (8-1-0-0, 16 points), who saw their seven-game season-opening win streak end on Friday night with a 4-2 setback to the Worcester IceCats, remained in a first place tie with the Hartford Wolf Pack (8-0-0-0, 16 points) in the American Hockey League's Atlantic Division. The Wolf Pack stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night.
The Monarchs and the Rats traded goals in the opening period. Brown began his three-goal night with a goal at 2:57. Center Pascal Rheaume tied the game with a short-handed tally at 13:11.
The Monarchs collected the next four goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Cammalleri's power play goal 42 seconds into the middle period gave the Monarchs the lead for good. Kostopoulos added to the lead less than four minutes later with a short-handed tally. The goal came seconds after he stripped the puck away from rookie center Zach Parise in the Albany zone.
Brown struck for two more goals in the final period, one on the power play at 3:44, and the other at 16:51. The goals were No. 6 and No. 7 on the season for Brown, who turned 20-years-old on Thursday.
The River Rats closed the scoring seconds later with the first goal of the season for left wing Ryan Murphy.
Goaltender Scott Clemmensen (2-5-1) took the loss. He finished with 22 stops.
The Monarchs return to action when they travel to the Springfield Civic Center to meet the Springfield Falcons on Friday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. Catch all of the play-by-play action with Ken Cail on the Monarchs Radio Network (WGIR-AM 610, Manchester; WGIN-AM 930, Rochester; WGIP-AM 1540, Exeter; WTSL-AM 1400, Lebanon) and at www.monarchshockey.com.
