
Sound Tigers Lose Preseason Game 3-0 In Philly

PHILADELPHIA, PA â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 3-0 to the Philadelphia Phantoms in a preseason game at the Northeast Philadelphia Skate Zone Saturday evening. The loss dropped the Sound Tigers' record in the 2003 preseason to 0-1-1 on the heels of a scoreless tie with the Worcester IceCats at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice Friday.
Freddy Meyer, on a five-on-three power play, and Boyd Kane scored in the first period, and Philadelphia native James Laux tallied with 2:44 left in the third frame for the Phantoms. Laux also had an assist while Kirby Law had two helpers.
Antero Niittymaki made 21 saves for the shutout while Scott Stirling had 29 stops in a losing effort for the Sound Tigers who were 0 for 11 on the power play while Philadelphia was 1 for 8 on the advantage in a game that had 120 penalty minutes. The Phantoms outshot Bridgeport 32-21.
The Sound Tigers will finish their four-game preseason schedule versus Worcester in Marlboro, Massachusetts this Friday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. and against the Manchester Monarchs at the Winter Garden Arena in Ridgefield this Saturday, October 4th at 4:05 p.m.
Tickets for this Saturday's game can be purchased in-person at the Winter Garden Arena at 111 Prospect Ridge in Ridgefield or on-line at www.wintergardenarena.com. Tickets for the game at the Winter Garden Arena cost $20 each and include an additional ticket for the Sound Tigers' regular-season home opener versus the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday, October 11th. The Sound Tigers will open the regular season on the road versus the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, October 10th and return home to host the Philadelphia Phantoms in their home opener at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday, October 11th at 7:05 p.m.
The 2003-04 season will be the Sound Tigers' third in the AHL and first under the guidance of new Head Coach Greg Cronin.
