Sound Tigers Lose 4-3 At Home To Binghamton

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 4-3 at home to the Binghamton Senators Sunday.

The Sound Tigers took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals as Justin Mapletoft scored his eighth of the season off an assist from Derek Bekar just 52 seconds into the game, and Eric Manlow redirected a shot by Alain Nasreddine for his eight of the year, with Jeff Hamilton also assisting, at the 7:26 mark.

Binghamton rallied to take a 3-2 lead with three second-period goals in a 4:10 span. First, David Hymovitz scored his eighth of the season, shorthanded, at the 8:49 mark off assists from Jody Hull and Andy Hedlund. Then, Julien Vauclair tied the score with his third of the year off assists from Denis Hamel and Serge Payer at 10:24. And finally, Brad Tapper gave the Senators their first lead of the contest with his seventh of the season, on the power-play, at 12:59 off assists from Hamel and Alexandre Giroux. However, the Sound Tigers tied the score just 34 seconds later on Ryan Kraft's 12th goal off an assist from Mapletoft.

Tapper put Binghamton ahead to stay with his second goal of the game and eighth of the year with 8:54 left in the third period. Hamel and Payer assisted on the game-winner.

Tapper was the first star of the game, Hamel the second, and Mapletoft the third. Senators Goaltender Billy Thompson made 24 saves to earn the win while Sound Tigers Netminder Dieter Kochan stopped 26 of 30 shots in a losing effort. Binghamton outshot the Sound Tigers 30-27 and was 1 for 6 on the power play. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 6 on the advantage.

The Sound Tigers will host the Providence Bruins this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., the Hartford Wolf Pack next Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Manchester Monarchs next Sunday at 4:05 p.m. to end an eight-game homestand at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.
