Sound Tigers Get Another Sweet Win in Hershey
January 20, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have made a sweet habit of winning in dramatic fashion when they travel to Hershey, Pa. The Sound Tigers overcame an early 3-1 deficit and pulled out an exciting 4-3 shootout win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday night, giving the team two shootout wins and one overtime victory in their three trips to Chocolatetown this season. The Sound Tigers outscored the Bears 3-2 in the shootout to improve to 18-17-1-4. The Bears, meanwhile, earned a point but fell to 27-8-3-5 before a Giant Center crowd of 9,401.
Sound Tiger goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 53 regulation and overtime shots, then denied three Bears in the five rounds of shootout competition to earn his second shootout win in as many nights.
Dubielewicz and the Sound Tigers won in a shootout on the road for the second straight day in a row after handing the Philadelphia Phantoms a 3-2 setback on Friday. Bridgeport has been to shootouts in four of its last six games and has earned at least a point in six of seven games in calendar year 2007. The Sound Tigers are 5-4 in shootouts overall this season.
Peter Ferraro, Steve Regier and Allan Rourke all found the back of the net in the shootout and Hershey's Tomas Fleischman and Matt Hendricks scored in the skater versus goaltender session. After Rourke scored in the fifth round, Dubielewicz stopped Joey Tenute to secure the win.
The Sound Tigers forced overtime on Eric Boguniecki's ninth tally of the year at 13:37 of the third period. Drew Fata and Steve Regier assisted the goal. Bridgeport had pulled to within 3-2 on Robert Nilsson's second-period goal, also his ninth, set up by Jeff Tambellini and Boguniecki on the power play.
The Bears held a 3-1 lead after the first period and held a dominant 21-6 shots on goal advantage at the time. Hershey struck first on Eric Fehr's 22nd goal just 2:20 into the game. Brandon Nolan tied the score for the Sound Tigers with his fourth, assisted by Blake Comeau and Ferraro on a power play net-finder at 7:33. Fleischmann scored the first of his two regulation goals just 43 seconds later, then added his 15th of the year exactly 10 minutes after his first of the night, giving the Bears a 3-1 advantage at 18:16 of the first.
The Sound Tigers were 2-for-8 on the power play and Bridgeport's league-best penalty killing unit held Hershey scoreless on nine power plays.
Hershey's Maxime Daigneault started the game and stopped 11 of 13 shots. Daren Machesney relieved him and stopped 20 of 21 regulation and overtime shots before surrendering three shootout goals.
The Bears, who have lost just once in regulation on home ice this season, now have four shootout losses at home, to go along with three overtime defeats at home. The Sound Tigers improved to 10-8-1-1 on the road.
The Sound Tigers return to the Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Great seats are available at the Arena at Harbor Yard Box Office.
