Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Duncan Milroy and Mikhail Grabovski each had a goal and an assist to help the Hamilton Bulldogs win their second game in as many nights, defeating the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-1 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, Hamilton improves its record to 25-18-1-1.
Milroy notched his team-leading 19th goal of the year on a 5-on-3 power play to open the scoring at 12:48 of the first period. Milroy picked up the rebound of an Andre Benoit shot from the point and quickly deposited the puck past Griffins netminder Stefan Liv.
The âDogs took an early 2-0 lead just 1:24 into the middle stanza when Benoit fed Mikhail Grabovski on a breakaway right out of the penalty box. Grabovski cut toward the net from the left blueline and made Liv commit first before taking the puck from his backhand to his forehand and registering his 12th goal of the season.
The Griffins cut the Bulldogs lead in half with a Jeff Campbell marker at 10:29 of the second period. Derek Meech's shot from the point was blocked and Campbell corralled the loose puck and chipped a shot past goaltender Yann Danis for his fourth goal of the season.
Hamilton restored its two-goal cushion at 17:03 of the second frame when Corey Locke set-up Francis Lemieux for his second tally of the campaign.
The Bulldogs went up 4-1 when Andrei Kostitsyn converted a 2-on-1 pass from Grabovski for his 13th marker of the season. The goal was scored at 5:23 of the third period.
Michael Lambert added an empty-net goal at 18:25 of the third period, sealing a 5-1 win for Hamilton.
Bulldogs forward Corey Locke played in his 200th career AHL game.
Yann Danis made 31 saves on 32 shots for the Bulldogs to pick up his 13th win of the season. At the other end of the ice, Stefan Liv stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in a losing effort for the Griffins.
The Bulldogs return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26th when they host San Antonio Rampage at Copps Coliseum.
