Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, MA - Francis Lessard's first goal of the season midway through the third period broke a tie score and propelled the Hartford Wolf Pack (24-17-3-0) to a 3-2 victory over the Lowell Devils (19-19-3-1) on Friday night at the Tsongas Arena.
The first period was scoreless but not without action. The first penalties for fisticuffs came just 1:19 into the contest, with the Devils Aaron Voros squaring off with David Liffiton. Cam Janssen got into the mix for the Devils later in the period as well, facing Lessard from the Wolf Pack. After 20 minutes, 10 penalties for 51 minutes had been dished out. Hartford outshot the Devils 12-8.
The first two goals of the game came during a five-minute major power play for Lowell early in the second. Dwight Helminen scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 1:20, only to be answered at the 3:00 mark. Dan McGillis swiped the puck away from a Hartford defender and sniped his eighth of the season unassisted for the power play goal. The Devils took the lead later in the period when Stephen Gionta pocketed his second of the season at 19:15, with Janssen and Mike Mottau picking up the assists.
The Wolf Pack victimized Devils G Jordan Parise for a pair of goals in the third to take the game back. Ryan Callahan had a partial break down the left wing side and buried his team-leading 25th goal of the season to tie the game up. Lessard took advantage of a scramble in front of the net and fired home the game winner at 11:09. The Pack outshot the Devils 12-5 in the third, and 31-24 in the game.
The New Jersey Devils reassigned D Andy Greene to Lowell tonight. Greene was selected to play for Team PlanetUSA at the 2007 CCM Vector/AHL All-Star Classic.
The Worcester Sharks return to Lowell on Sunday afternoon for a 4:05 p.m. match at the Tsongas Arena. The Devils are teaming up with local fire departments to collect carbon monoxide detectors. Any fan donating a working detector at the game will get a free Devils t-shirt. After every Sunday home game there is an open post-game skate, free to everyone in attendance, courtesy of Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union. A limited number of skates are available for use at no extra charge, or fans may bring their own skates to the game.
