The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins struck for four goals in a span of just over two minutes in the first period and went on to topple the visiting Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-1 on Friday. The Penguins improved to 21-4-2-2 and the Sound Tigers dropped to 12-12-1-3 before 7,976 fans at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

Micki DuPont and Stephen Dixon both had two goals and Tyler Kennedy, Rob Schremp and Connor James each added a pair of assists in the win. Dixon also had an assist and Noah Welch and Daniel Carcillo added goals for the Penguins.

Special teams play was a difference-maker in this game with the Penguins striking three times on the power play and once while shorthanded. DuPont scored twice and Welch added a third goal on the power play, while Dixon scored shorthanded in the third period.

Pens goaltender Jeff Deslauriers stopped 30 shots and had his shutout big denied when Frans Nielsen scored on the power play with just over three seconds remaining in the game. Brandon Nolan and Kevin Mitchell assisted Nielsen's tally. Bridgeport's Michael Mole kicked aside 11 of 13 shots in relief of Billy Thompson as the Sound Tigers outshot the Penguins 31-23.

The Sound Tigers return to the Arena at Harbor Yard to take on the Manchester Monarchs Saturday, Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. Fans who dress as Santa Claus will receive a free ticket to Saturday's game.
