
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 5-3

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-3 Friday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Matt Lashoff, Chris Collins and Ben Walter.
In the opening period, the Pirates scored the lone goal, while each team had a man in the penalty box. At the 7:36 mark, Pierre Parenteau scored from between the circles. Bruno St. Jacques and Brett Skinner recorded the assists.
The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 8:52 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Lashoff took a shot from the blue line and the puck was deflected in front of the net by a Pirates defenseman and past their netminder Dov Grumet-Morris. Pascall Pelletier and Walter had the assists. Forty-two seconds later the P-Bruins took their first lead of the game. Lashoff sent a shot on net and the rebound was put home by Collins. Jay Leach tallied the other assist. The Pirates bounced back less than a minute later as Aaron Rome scored from the right point, with Parenteau and Clay Wilson earning the assists. The game headed into the second intermission tied at two.
The Pirates retook the lead early in the third period. As their 5 on 3 power play opportunity expired Parenteau scored his second goal of the game on the 5 on 4 power play at the 1:54 mark. Zenon Konopka and Skinner had the assists. Providence tied the game at three on an even strength goal at the 5:09 mark. The goal was scored by Walter and was unassisted. Portland took the lead for good at the 9:51 mark on a power play goal from Parenteau, his third of the game. Brian Salcido and Skinner recorded the assists. The Pirates added an empty net goal late in the third from Drew Miller with Konopka tallying the lone assist as Portland went on to the 5-3 victory.
Philippe Sauve stopped 22 of 26 shots for the P-Bruins, while Grumet-Morris made 40 saves for the Pirates. Providence was 1 for 9 on the power play, while Portland went 2 for 7 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins are back in action Saturday, December 23 against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Hartford Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 5 to take on the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m. For tickets call the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
