Hershey Bears News Release

Both HERSHEY and Norfolk have 45 points, and are tied for the American Hockey League's best point total. The East Division rivals face each other Friday night at Norfolk Scope. While the BEARS have two games in hand on Norfolk and the fewest regulation losses of any AHL team, HERSHEY enters Friday's game with much of its firepower unavailable.

The BEARS will be without goaltender Frederic Cassivi, who was injured during Wednesday's 7-4 win at Albany. Cassivi and his 202 American Hockey League victories will be on the injury shelf into January. The BEARS announced Friday that goaltender Daren Machesney has been recalled from South Carolina (ECHL) as Maxime Daigneault steps into the club's number one goaltending role. Daigneault has not lost a game in regulation this season in limited action, but is now thrust into the starting role for the first time in his HERSHEY career. The BEARS will also be without forward Alexandre Giroux and defenseman Jeff Schultz. Both were recalled today by the Washington Capitals, and both are expected to play Friday against the New Jersey Devils at Verizon Center. Winger Eric Fehr, although close to returning to the lineup, is also expected to miss Friday's game in Norfolk due to injury. HERSHEY is expected to get rugged forward Louis Robitaille back in the lineup Friday. Robitaille missed Wednesday's game in Albany due to an injury suffered in practice Tuesday.

Norfolk has two points in three games against HERSHEY this season, but has yet to defeat the BEARS in three tries. Tonight's game is the fourth of the ten game season series between the two clubs. The Admirals will be at GIANT Center next Saturday, December 30 before the BEARS return to Hampton Roads for a two-game series January 3 and 5.

Tonight's game can be heard via the BEARS Radio Network beginning at 6:55 p.m. John Walton has the call of the action from Norfolk. Tickets remain for Saturday's game at GIANT Center with the Philadelphia Phantoms. All fans through the gates Saturday will receive a 5,000th game commemorative coin, and ten fans will win $500 cash in time for the holidays. The BEARS will also wear special Christmas jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
