Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) - Estee Harris and Brandon Cohen hit back to back home runs and reliever Nick Sottung pitched the final two innings in the 7-5 win for the Evansville Otters over the Florence Freedom on Friday night.
Sottung struck out six batters to stop the Evansville four game losing streak and start the upcoming nine game roadtrip with a win.
The Otters rallied for three runs early against Florence pitcher Andy Clark. A fielding error by Michael Wheeler allowed the first run to score, as Pat Rose brought home another two runs later in the inning with a single.
The Freedom battled back for two more runs against Otters starter Jorge Lugo to bring the lead down to a run.
Ahead 3-2 in the fifth, Evansville then stormed back for another three runs as both Estee Harris and Brandon Cohen hit solo home runs to right field. Vinnie Scarduzio looped a double to left field a few batters later as Florence trailed 6-2.
The sea-saw battle would continue as Michael Campbell hit a three-run double in the 6th inning for the Freedom as Florence was back within a run.
Evansville would add a late run as the bullpen sparkled the rest of the way for the Otters. Jared Simon pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Nick Sottung struck out Stephen Shults, the hero from Thursday night to end the game.
Both teams are now 14-19 this season following today's game.
Jorge Lugo (4-0) earns the win after striking out nine batters over 5 2/3 innings. The loss goes to Andy Clark for allowing six runs (three earned) in just 4 1/3 innings. The save was Nick Sottung's third of the season.
