Soto's Bomb Lifts Surf over Ducks

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (June 19, 2003) - Emison Soto went 3-5 with five RBI, including a two-out three-run homer in the seventh, to lead the Atlantic City Surf over the Long Island Ducks, 8-5, Thursday evening at Citibank Park.

With the game tied 4-4 in the seventh inning, Soto stepped up with two men on and two outs and drove a 3-2 Oscar Henriquez offering over the left field wall to give the Surf a decisive 7-4 advantage.

Atlantic City starter Andy Zwirchitz (5-1) picked up the victory in going six and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Surf closer Randi Mallard notched his Atlantic League-leading 13th save of the year.

The Surf, now 22-22 on the season, are now six games back of the first-place Camden Riversharks with 18 games remaining in the first half.

Atlantic City will face division-rival Somerset tonight in the first of a three-game series, at 6:35 p.m., at Commerce Bank Park in Bridgewater, N.J.
