ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (June 20, 2003) â Atlantic City Surf outfielder Shane Monahan has announced his retirement from baseball today.
Monahan was a .284 lifetime minor league hitter in 768 games played, while hitting 73 home runs and driving in 448 RBI.
After putting together two straight solid seasons in the Seattle Mariners farm system, Monahan finally got the call up in 1998 and played 78 games with the Mariners from 1998-99, batting .235 during that tenure.
He spent time in the Reds, Pirates, Royals and Yankees organizations before signing on with the Atlantic City Surf this season.
Monahan batted .197 with two home runs and 20 RBI for the Surf this season.
