Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Ambassadors lost a tight pitcher's duel to Brockton, as Rodney Allen pitched eight innings giving up only two runs and the Ambassadors lost 3-2 Friday night in Brockton.
The Rox jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Nestor Smith hit a solo home run to right field off Ambassador starter Miguel Perez. The Ambassadors responded with a run in the top of the third, as Greg Schmidt led off the inning with a double and Jorge Diaz singled him home. But the Rox would add two more in the bottom of the inning. Mel Rosario led off with a walk, then Steve Booker reached on a bunt single. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and then Nestor Smith hit a sacrifice fly to right followed by a RBI single from Saul Bustos.
That would be all that Allen would need, although the Ambassadors added another run in the top of the fourth. Vic Davilla led off the inning with a double and was singled home by Cedrick Harris.
The Ambassadors had a chance in the eighth inning when Marlon Roche walked with two outs. Schulyer Doakes pinch ran for Roche, and Vic Davilla singled to right. But Doakes took too wide a turn around second base and was thrown out trying to dive back into the bag by Rox right fielder Steve Booker. Conor Brooks came in a pitched a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save.
Perez pitched a good game for the Ambassadors, pitching seven innings giving up only four hits walking two and striking out ten. He took his first loss of the season while Allen got his third win. The Ambassadors are now 11-13 this season, while the Rox improved to 15-11. The two teams play again tomorrow night at 7:11.
