Ambassadors Trade Greg Schmidt to Rox for Mike Davis, Fontella Jones

The Allentown Ambassadors traded Greg Schmidt and the team¹s second round draft pick in this Spring's Northeast League tryout camp to Brockton for second baseman Mike Davis and relief pitcher Fontella Jones, team officials announced today.
Davis hit .256 last season with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 58 games. He began the year on a tear at the plate, but got injured and missed a significant portion of the season. At second-base he committed only two errors in 203 total chances, a fielding percentage of .990, the best in the league for anyone with more than eight total chances. He began his career in 1998 in the Frontier League and played in the Padres organization in 2001 and part of 2002. Davis finished the 2002 season with Broctkon.
Jones got off to a rough start last season, but finished strong, allowing four earned runs in his final 13.1 innings pitched as Brockton made its playoff push in August and September. In the playoffs, Jones pitched 2.2 scoreless innings helping Brockton capture the league championship. Jones began his career in 1998 when he was a 24th round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers. Jones spent three seasons in the Brewer organization before moving into independent baseball. In 2002 he recorded 15 saves for the Adirondack Lumberjacks, increasing his career total to 52.
Schmidt hit .257 for the Ambassadors last season, with 20 doubles, five triples, one home run and 33 RBI. He played third-base and the outfield and also pitched an inning in a blowout against New Jersey.
