West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK - Angel Castro opened Friday's game against Clinton with four perfect innings on the mound. He allowed just four hits in seven total innings of work, but three of those hits were solo home runs as the Whitecaps fell to the LumberKings, 3-1.

Chris Gerrardo became the first Clinton base runner when he blasted his first homer of the year to centerfield to lead off the fifth inning. Two batters later, John Whittleman hit his first home run of the season and the Lumberkings led, 2-0.

Whittleman hit another solo home run in the seventh to provide the final margin of victory.

The only Whitecaps run of the game was unearned and occurred in the sixth inning when Gorkys Hernandez reach base on an error and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Strieby. That was the only run scored by West Michigan in the final two games of the series.

Glenn Swanson tossed eight innings for Clinton to earn the win. Tim Gudex used a double play in the ninth to face the minimum three batters to earn his second save.
