Solid Pitching Not Enough; Mustangs Fall to Glacier 5-2

June 7, 2023 - Pioneer League (PL)
Billings Mustangs News Release

Despite just five runs given up by three different Mustangs pitchers, Billings falls to Glacier 5-2.

Glacier (8-3) started the game off with a lead-off triple by Gabe Howell. Two batters later and Dean Miller singled off starter Mustangs' (3-10) McLain Harris (L,0-1) to score Howell and make it 1-0.

Harris ran into trouble again in the second on three hits, giving up a two RBI single to Howell to make it 3-0 Glacier.

As planned the Mustangs slotted right-hander Karan Patel into the game in the top of the 3rd. Over six innings, Patel gave up just two runs on six hits, a walk and he struck out six batters.

The Mustangs offense found its groove in the bottom of the 5th with a one out single from second-baseman Luke Fennelly, and an RBI double from designated hitter Conner Denning. Billings scored again in the sixth on an RBI double from right-fielder Bryce Donovan, who brought left-fielder Gabe Wurtz home to score after he led off the inning with a double.

Nate Jenkins relieved Patel in the top of the 9th. Jenkins tossed a scoreless inning while punching out two batters and walking one.

Some positive notes for the Mustangs: Moralez extended his on-base streak to six games, Donovan's RBI knock made him the only Mustang to reach safely in all 11 games he's played, and Gabe Wurtz collected a multi-hit night after missing three games due to a family event.

The Mustangs try again at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday. You'll find pre-game coverage at 6:15 p.m. on ESPN 910/105.5 FM or espn910.com. You can also watch every pitch on FloSports.
