Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
AMARILLO - The Sod Poodles belted three home runs and received a sturdy performance from Lake Bachar to rally for a 6-4 win over Corpus Christi before 7,067 fans Friday night at Hodgetown.
The Hooks (4-4, 37-40) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a first-inning sac fly by Stephen Wrenn and an RBI single off the bat of Anibal Sierra in the second.
Amarillo (2-6, 36-40) countered with three in the home half on dingers by Edward Olivares and Luis Torrens off J.B. Bukauskas.
Torrens, who plated both Sod Poodle runs Thursday night, also factored in defensively, throwing out three runners attempting to steal second base.
In the fourth, Brad Zunica opened with a double and later came around to score on a Taylor Kohlwey knock.
Bukauskas, selected to pitch in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, finished well, dispatching the final eight men he faced.
Sierra leveled the score in the seventh with a two-run home run to left field on a 1-1 Bachar pitch.
Facing Tommy DeJuneas (0-2), Ivan Castillo, who was a homer shy of the cycle, answered with a triple in the next half inning. Castillo came home during the next at-bat via a wild pitch.
Chris Baker added insurance in the eighth by belting a home run to left field. Both of Baker's home runs have come at the expense of Corpus Christi.
Lefty Adrian Morejon, also a Futures selection, pitched the first two innings as scheduled and Bachar went 5.1 innings for the win. Travis Radke and David Bednar pitched scoreless relief for the home club.
Enoli Paredes takes the ball for Corpus Christi Saturday night. He will be opposed by Nick Margevicius. First pitch 6:05.
