AMARILLO - Backed by three fifth-inning long balls and stellar pitching by Cristian Javier and Willy Collado, the Hooks edged Amarillo, 3-2, before 6,544 fans at Hodgetown.
Corpus Christi has won four of the last five games.
Javier permitted just two base hits on the night, both RBI knocks by Luis Torrens. After working a lead-off walk in the fourth, Edward Olivares stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. Torrens plated Olivares with a liner into center for the game's first run.
Kyle Lloyd (2-5), who scattered four hits and induced a pair of double plays over the first four innings, ran into a roadblock in the fifth. Colton Shaver and Chuckie Robinson opened the inning with back-to-back dingers. Shaver has gone deep three times in the last two games.
Ronnie Dawson made it 3-1 Hooks with a 450-foot home run to left-center. It was Dawson's 12th blast of the year and his fifth in the last three games.
The Hooks have hit 15 home runs in the last five games, with those dingers accounting for 22 of the club's 27 runs during this span.
Javier had retired eight in a row leading up to Torrens' two-out solo home run in the seventh. He coaxed a groundout in the next at-bat to finish his night. Javier (4-2) has won his last two starts, permitting just two runs and two hits while striking out 17 in 11.2 frames.
Collado, interrupted by a 38-minute rain delay, retired the seven Sod Poodles he faced to author his first career Double-A save.
