New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Mark Sobolewski hit his tenth home run and Ryan Goins had two hits and an RBI as the Fisher Cats dropped their third in a row, 7-3, on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The defeat leaves New Hampshire with a 1-4 record heading into the final game of the homestand on Sunday afternoon.
For the second game in the series, the Baysox (26-34) jumped on top early with a two-out run in the first inning. They added a second run with two outs in the second before the Fisher Cats (22-38) came back to tie the game later in the inning. Sobolewski snuck his tenth homer inside the U.S. Cellular foul pole in right, cutting it to a 2-1 game. After Brian Jeroloman singled and moved to second on a passed ball, Goins tied the game with a base hit to center field for his 30th RBI of the season.
The Baysox retook the lead for good in the fourth with a solo run against starter Chad Jenkins (L; 2-7). Jenkins allowed one more in the fifth before leaving the game in a 4-2 hole. Jenkins pitched 4.0 innings, giving up ten hits and four earned runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, New Hampshire pulled within a run again thanks to a Bowie error. Goins singled with one out, taking second on a wild pitch. After a groundout, Goins scored on a throwing error by Bowie shortstop Manny Machado to make it a 4-3 game.
That's as close as New Hampshire would get as Bowie scored two in the sixth and added its final run in the ninth. The Baysox have pounded out 16 runs on 32 hits over the first two games of the series.
Sean Ochinko added an eighth-inning double for the Fisher Cats, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.
The Fisher Cats will try to salvage the finale of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. The first 1,000 kids will receive a free U.S. Cellular Kids Baseball Glove. It's also a U.S. Cellular Academic All-Stars game and all kids can run the bases after the game courtesy of the Buyers Beware program. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com.
