Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists knocked off the Rome Braves 2-1 in a pitcher's duel on Thursday night. Lucas Gilbreath once again was brilliant for Asheville and Taylor Snyder's seventh inning Home Run proved to be the difference.

Gilbreath retired the first nine batters he faced until an infield single off the bat of Drew Waters led off the top of the fourth. After Waters stole second and third, he scored on a groundout to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.

Asheville had multiple base-runners in both the third and fourth innings but it was the sixth when the Tourists finally broke through. Bret Boswell began a two-out rally with a single into right-center. Ryan Vilade then worked a walk and Casey Golden followed with an RBI double up the third base line.

The Tourists took their first lead with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Snyder squared up an Odalvi Javier fastball and launched it over the left field wall for a 405-foot Home Run.

Austin Moore, who worked a perfect top of the seventh, picked up the win. Tommy Doyle took care of business in the eighth and Robert Tyler earned his fifth save of the year with a one, two, three ninth inning.

Gilbreath did not factor in the decision but finished with six innings pitched and allowed only one run on four hits while striking out six.

Asheville has won three straight overall and will go for a series sweep on Friday night.
