Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators are proud to be a participant in Minor League Baseballs' "Copa de la Diversión," or "Fun Cup," initiative. This is a season long event that is specifically designed to embrace the culture and values of our U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities. Tonight the Intimidators will work to create a culturally relevant gameday experience and will adopt a new alternate on-field moniker "Los Rapidos De Kannapolis" that reflects our unique and diverse fan base. The team has worked diligently to bolster its community engagement efforts to celebrate our communities' multi-cultural fans. With the assistance of El Puente Hispano, we'll have music, food, dance, baseball and family fun - all full of Latin flavor. A fiesta like atmosphere will be brought to life throughout the ballpark.
"We whole-heartedly share the passion that MiLB has on this initiative, "says Kannapolis Intimidators President/GM Brian Radle of the clubs' participation in the campaign. "Our brand is fun and is spoken in many different languages. It's already been a blast to sit down with the Hispanic and Latino members of our community to build our part in this campaign with integrity, originality, and substance."¯And we can't wait to activate it this season."
MiLB has worked with the Intimidators to create a culturally relevant on-field persona to honor our U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities. The persona is aimed to visually celebrate the diversity that defines our community and the Greater Charlotte Area. The Intimidators are one of 33 clubs participating in the initiative. Teams for the 2018 campaign span 19 states from coast-to-coast. Since Kannapolis is deep in the heart of racing country, a new kind of speed has begun to make itself known. Growing, working, learning, and even dancing faster than any other, the Latin community is on the rise. And we want to celebrate the diversities of the Latin culture!
At the conclusion of the 2018 season, the Kannapolis Intimidators will auction its "Copa de la Diversión" branded game-used caps and jerseys and donate the proceeds to a U.S. Hispanic/Latino-focused organization.
