Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Southern League has announced that Blake Snell has been selected as the Southern League Pitcher of the Month for May.

Snell, 22, made six starts in May going 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA. His ERA was the lowest in a single month in Biscuits history (minimum of 20 innings pitched). Victor Mateo had a 0.86 ERA in August of 2013 and Austin Pruitt had a 1.01 ERA this April for the second and third lowest ERAs in a single month respectively. To go along with the ERA, Snell struck out 44 in less than 38 innings while holding a 0.82 WHIP and a .138 opponent batting average.

The former-first round pick's greatest accomplishment came to an end in a start against Tennessee on May 23. Snell had not allowed a run in 49-straight innings dating back to 2014 before the Smokies plated a run in the first inning to snap the streak. Snell's streak was less than ten innings away from setting the modern day minor league record, while his 46-consecutive scoreless innings in 2015 were only four away from setting the single-season modern minor league record.

The Rays drafted Snell 52nd overall in 2011 out of Shoreline High School in Washington. The left-hander is fifth season in professional baseball and was the Rays 2014 Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
