
Batista to New Orleans; Reed to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to today's game against the Montgomery Biscuits at 1:05 p.m. at Bragan Field.
Right-handed relief pitcher Lay Batista has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Batista pitched in 14 games in relief for the Suns, going 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA along with a save. At the time of his promotion, Batista led all Southern League relievers in batting average against at .106 (7-for-66). This is the first call-up to Triple-A in Batista's career, which began in 2009 in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization.
In a corresponding move, left-handed relief pitcher Frankie Reed has been transferred from rookie level Batavia to Jacksonville. Reed has pitched in 10 games this season with Jacksonville, with no wins or losses and a 4.11 ERA in 15 and a third innings pitched.
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players plus catcher Jeff Mathis on his rehab assignment, and a revised roster is attached.
The Suns and Biscuits will square off again Wednesday afternoon from Bragan Field with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out righty Austin Brice (2-4, 7.71 ERA) while the Biscuits will counter with right-hander Jaime Schultz (4-3, 3.33 ERA).
