Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Jackson Generals plated three runs in the top of the ninth to break a 3-3 tie and defeat the Mississippi Braves 6-3 at Trustmark Park Wednesday night. The series continues Thursday at 7:00 PM.
Mississippi (28-23) scored three runs on 11 hits. Jackson (22-29) plated six runs on seven hits. The two teams combined to commit seven errors in the game. KD Kang led the M-Braves with a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate. Emerson Landoni added a three-hit night for the Braves.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third. Mallex Smith walked and Landoni singled to put runners at the corners with no outs. Joey Terdoslavich, who's with the Braves on a major league rehab assignment, then delivered a sacrifice fly to center.
DJ Peterson doubled to right with two out in the fourth. Jabari Blash then singled to left but the ball was bobbled allowing Peterson to score on an error, thus tying the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Landoni singled and Terdoslavich doubled to left field. Landoni came around to score on the play after an errant throw by the third baseman, putting the M-Braves out front 2-1.
Ian Miller walked and stole second. Dario Pizzano then doubled to right, tying the game at 2-2. Pizzano took third on an error by the right fielder before scoring the go-ahead run on a Jabari Blash sacrifice fly to deep right field.
Kang tripled to lead off the Braves eighth. Matt Kennelly then singled to left, driving home Kang to tie the game at 3-3. Levi Hyams reached on a fielder's choice and Matt Lipka reached on an error by the pitcher to put runners at the corners with two out but the Braves couldn't get another run across.
The Generals loaded the bases in the ninth before Tyler Smith's sacrifice fly brought home Dan Paolini. Marcus Littlewood came in to score on the same play via error, giving the Generals a 5-3 advantage. A wild pitch allowed another run to score and make it 6-3.
Trevor Miller (4-0) worked two innings and picked up the win. Matt Anderson (S, 8) came on in the ninth to notch the save. Ryne Harper (0-1) suffered the loss.
Neither starter factored in the decision. For the Braves Tyrell Jenkins gave up three runs, only one earned, on five hits and two walks. He struck out two batters in six innings pitched. Jake Zokan tossed six frames for Jackson, allowing two runs and one earned run on seven hits and a couple walks. He struck out five batters.
M-Braves right-hander Jake Brigham (4-2, 3.5) toes the rubber in game five of this six-game series against the Generals. He'll counter Jackson lefty Misael Siverio (1-4, 4.76). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
