Jackson Generals News Release
Pearl, Miss. - Jackson won its ninth game in its final at-bat Wednesday night against the Braves in Pearl at Trustmark Park after two of the team's regular players were traded to Arizona just before first pitch. The Generals scored three in the ninth to come away with a 6-3 win over Mississippi after the Braves tied the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth.
Just prior to first pitch, it was announced that Jack Reinheimer and Gabriel Guerrero along with former General Dominic Leone and Welington Castillo were part of a six-player trade between Seattle and the Arizona Diamondbacks. In return, the Mariners acquired outfielder Mark Trumbo and left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuî=B1o. Both Guerrero and Reinhimer had played in 48 of Jackson's 51 games coming into Thursday.
More than three hours later, Jackson (22-29) rallied for three runs in the final inning to earn the victory in game four of six against the Braves. With the bases loaded and one out, Tyler Smith drove in the go-ahead run on a sac fly with another run coming on a Rio Ruiz throwing error after the throw back to the infield. Later in the frame, Ian Miller scampered home on a Ryne Harper (0-1, 6.00) wild pitch to put the Generals up 6-3.
Matt Anderson (S, 8) picked up his eighth save of the season and his first in two weeks with a perfect ninth inning to seal the victory for Jackson. Trevor Miller (4-0, 6.94) gave up his first run in eight outings, but earned the win with two solid innings of relief.
Mississippi (28-23) scored the game's first run in the third inning on a sac fly by Joey Terdoslavich, who was making his first rehab appearance with the Braves' Double-A club this season. The Generals answered back with a run in the third. D.J. Peterson crushed a double to right field with two outs, and then came into score on a single by Jabari Blash and a Terdoslavich error in left field.
Errors were a feature of the game for both teams, as Mississippi made three defensive miscues while Jackson tied a season-high with four errors. The contest also featured four unearned runs, four double plays, two wild pitches, three intentional walks and a hit-batter.
The Braves plated the run with the help of a Peterson error in the fifth before the Generals took their first lead of the game in the sixth. Dario Pizzano, the only General to record a multi-hit game, drove in the tying run with an RBI double to right field. Two batters later, Pizzano came home to give Jackson a 3-2 edge on a sac fly by Blash.
The Generals maintained the lead until the bottom of the eighth. Trevor Miller, who had thrown 11.2 consecutive scoreless innings, gave up a leadoff triple to KD Kang, Kang who finished with four hits on the night, scored on a Matt Kennelly single that got past a drawn-in Jackson infield to tie the game.
Jackson's three-run ninth evened up the series at two games apiece after the Generals dropped both games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Trustmark Park. The victory was the team's ninth in its final at-bat this season.
On Thursday, the Generals will attempt to take the lead in the six-game set against Mississippi as lefty Misael Siverio (1-4, 4.76) takes the ball against Jake Brigham (4-2, 3.95). First pitch from Trustmark Park is scheduled for 7:00 pm CT, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) staring with the Tennesssee Army National Guard Pregame Show at 6:45 pm CT.
