Cishek, Suns Outlast Biscuits 4-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (21-31) topped the Montgomery Biscuits (24-28) 4-3 for their eighth one run win of the season Wednesday afternoon from Bragan Field.

Matt Tomshaw (W, 1-4) tossed a scoreless seventh frame in relief for his first winning decision of the year after allowing one hit accompanied with a walk and a pair of strikeouts for the Suns. Mark Sappington (L, 2-4) took the loss in relief for Montgomery after entering in the seventh, and allowing one run (earned) on one hit while walking two and striking out three. Steve Cishek (S, 1) manufactured a perfect ninth frame while not allowing a hit or a walk and striking out one.

The scoring began in the top of the first for the Biscuits after Boog Powell would lead off with a single then subsequently stole second and reached third on a throwing error from Suns catcher Sharif Othman. Next batter Daniel Robertson left his at-bat after three pitches due to injury to be replaced by Tommy Coyle. Coyle would step in with two strikes and reach via a fielding error courtesy of Suns second baseman Danny Black that would score Powell. With a 1-0 lead, Coyle would then steal second and reach third on Othman's second throwing error of the frame. Cameron Seitzer then cashed in with a RBI sacrifice fly scoring Coyle and doubling up his squad's advantage to 2-0.

To the last of the fourth and Jacksonville took the lead after bringing home three runs. First Carlos Lopez started the frame with a double then moved to third on a Austin Nola groundout to second base. Next batter Viosergy Rosa, sent home Lopez after his productive groundball out brought the Suns to within 2-1. Then Matt Juengel (HR, 7) powered a two-run home run to left field that bolted the Suns in front 3-2.

Moving towards the fifth and the Biscuits worked the bases loaded against Brice after a single and a pair of walks. Johnny Field Jr. then tied the score at three after arching a RBI sacrifice fly to center bringing in a runner from third.

Flashing ahead to the seventh frame and Zack Cox started things off with a single against Biscuits reliever Mark Sappington, then a walk to Danny Black, and a wild pitch set up the Suns with two runners in scoring position and one out. After a walk to Lopez that loaded the bases, a second wild pitch in the frame from Sappington, scored Cox and pushed Jacksonville out a 4-3 advantage.

Suns starter Austin Brice lasted six innings surrendering three runs (two earned) while walking three and striking out five. Montgomery's right-handed starter Jaime Schultz countered with six frames relinquishing three runs (all earned) on six hits while walking and striking out three.

Blake Logan entered in the eighth and struck out the side for Jacksonville.

The Suns and Biscuits will square off again Thursday night from Bragan Field with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out righty Trevor Williams (1-6, 5.40 ERA) while the Biscuits will counter with left-hander Blake Snell (3-0, 0.72 ERA).
