Snappers Win, Earn Western Division Wildcard

The Snappers downed the Timber Rattlers 8-1 in a most win game for Beloit to have a chance to make the playoffs. Johnny Woodard smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the third to give Beloit a 1-0 lead. David Winfree drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Snappers a 2-0 lead. The Timber Rattlers cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the fifth. Woodard again provided the offense drilling a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Beloit added four runs in the bottom of the eighth to give them an 8-1 advantage. In the eighth David Winfree hit a three run home run and Javi Sanchez scored on a wild pitch. Eddie Morlan earned the win, allowing one run and striking out seven in five and a third innings of work. Woodard and Winfree powered the offense. Winfree was two for five with a homerun and four RBI's, while Woodard was two for four with two homeruns and three RBI's.

Playoff Notes: The Snappers earned the Western Division Wildcard, with their 8-1 win and Kane County's 5-0 loss. The Snappers will play a best of three series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Upcoming Schedule: The Snappers and Timber Rattlers will play a best of three playoff series starting Wednesday, September 7. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm. Beloit travels to Appleton to play game two of the best of three game series Thursday, September 8 and will play game three (if necessary) Friday, September 9.
