
Snappers Sneak Past Captains 3-2

Lake County Captains News Release
(Beloit, WI) - Beloit (14-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to sneak by the Captains (12-8) by a final of 3-2. With the bases loaded Aaron Shipman drew a walk and tied the ballgame at 2-2. One hitter later, Brett Vertigan hit a fly ball to left field and the go-ahead run scored. The score was 3-2. The Captains walked 10 hitters on the night, the Snappers left ten men on base.
The Captains scored first when Erik Gonzalez doubled with one out in the second inning. Gonzalez then stole third base and caused a wild throw from the Beloit catcher Nick Rickles. Gonzalez got up and scampered home and the score was 1-0 Captains after two innings.
It became 2-0 when Yhoxian Medina was on first base in the fifth inning. Seth Streich fielded a tapper hit by Todd Hankins and threw the ball wide of first base. The ball sailed down the RF line and Median scored from first base and the Captains were up a pair.
In the bottom of the fifth Beloit scored a run to trim the score to 2-1. Brett Vertigan walked and scored on a double by Christopher Bostick. The score was 2-1 Captains. The lead was held until the eighth inning.
RHP Dylan Baker (6-5) started the ballgame for the Captains and did not get a decision. Baker pitched four innings, and allowed just one hit, and four walks. Baker struck out a season high eight hitters. Baker now has a 17 & 2/3 scoreless inning streak. Felix Sterling pitched one inning and allowed on run on one hit and one walk. Benny Suarez pitched one and one two third innings and did not allow a hit. Suarez walked three and fanned one. Jack Wagoner (2-2) took the loss. Wagoner pitched one and one third innings, two hits, two earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
RHP Seth Streich (9-5) got the starting nod from Beloit and did not get the decision. Streich pitched seven innings and yielded three hits and two unearned runs. He walked two and struck out five. Kris Hall (3-1) earned the win after pitching one inning and striking out two and just allowing one walk. Austin House earned his sixth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Lake County will remain on the road for the finale of a three game series against the Beloit Snappers. Lake County will start RHP Luis Dejesus (3-9, 6.02) and the Snappers will counter with RHP Vince Vorio (5-3, 3.18). First Pitch will be at 8:00 PM from Pohlman Field in Beloit, Wisconsin.
