Burlington Bees News Release

Anthony Bemboom blasted a two-run home run with two outs in the 10th inning to help the Burlington Bees knock off the Great Lakes Loons 5-3 on Thursday night at Dow Diamond.

The Bees (32-53, 6-14) and Loons (41-50, 14-7) played extra innings on Thursday night, but Anthony Bemboom and company sent the Loons fans unhappy thanks to Bemboom's seventh home run of the season.

Owen Jones (1-1) picked up the first two outs of the tenth, but after walking Wade Hinkle, he surrendered a two-run blast to Bemboom. Bemboom now has a home run in two straight games, and in the process handed Jones his first loss of the season.

Kurt Spomer (2-3) came on in the ninth to try and earn his fifth save of the season, but it was a rough go of it for the 24-year-old right-hander. Spomer walked Aaron Miller to start the inning and then allowed a single to Brandon Dixon. Malcolm Holland came in to pinch-hit and lay down a sacrifice bunt. Spomer's throw to Cannizaro on the bunt glanced off Cannizaro's glove, allowing Holland to reach and loaded the bases with nobody out. Jeremy Rathjen singled home Miller and James Baldwin sent a fly ball to center that brought home Dixon.

Burlington took a 3-0 lead in the fifth thanks to another two-out rally. Chevy Clarke and Wendell Soto each reached on base hits and sent Loons' starter, Chris Anderson, packing after 4.2 innings. Arismendy Ozoria walked Sherman Johnson and then surrendered a bases-clearing double to Garrett Cannizaro.

Reid Scoggins started for the Bees and was stellar, striking out five in three scoreless innings. Brandon Love was also phenomenal, allowing one run on a solo home run to Robbie Garvey in the eighth. Love struck out five batters, as well.

Burlington and Great Lakes will square off in the rubber match of the three-game series on Friday night. Pat Lowery will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers second round pick, Tom Windle, at 7:05 eastern time.
